Earlier this year, the electrophysiology team at Columbus Regional Healthcare System’s Cath Lab, under the leadership of Dr. Albert Sey, performed their first procedure using the Varipulse Platform to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib).
The Varipulse system applies pulsed field ablation (PFA) therapy, a catheter-based approach that uses rapid and high-voltage electrical pulses to target and destroy heart tissue responsible for AFib. According to the organization, “Varipulse PFA therapy allows for more efficient, safer, and enhanced procedures through detailed imaging alongside use of intracardiac echocardiography guidance for ablation procedures. It helps to enhance electrical pathway mapping within the heart, allowing for more precise treatment and ablation of the areas of the heart causing AFib.” The platform enables physicians to deliver targeted energy with precision while reducing dependence on x-ray radiation. This is intended to result in safer outcomes and greater long-term effectiveness.
“Varipulse PFA enables the physician to deliver precise energy to specific areas of the heart in great detail, with less reliance on x-ray radiation for safer, more predictable outcomes and long-term effectiveness of ablation treatment,” stated Columbus Regional Healthcare System.
