CITY OF WHITEVILLE: Columbus reports 25th death due to COVID-19

City of Whiteville issued the following announcement on May 28.

The Columbus County Health Department announced another death due to COVID-19 on Wednesday. The person, who died at home on Tuesday, was the county’s 25th death blamed on the coronavirus.

The health department also reported nine new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the county’s total to 315.

“Five of the new cases are connected to positive family members, two of the cases are healthcare workers, one case is connected to a congregate living facility in Columbus County, and one is still under investigation,” the health department said in a press release.

The health department on May 21 said that 74 people had recovered from COVID -19. An update is expected Thursday.

Tabor Commons Assisted Living in Tabor City, which has seen 55 COVID-19 cases and nine deaths, announced Tuesday that 14 of its residents had recovered from the coronavirus.

“We will be celebrating their transition from isolation today and we are continuing to work hard to help our other residents through their recoveries as well,” Tabor Commons said in a statement. “Thanks for your continued support and prayers — we have felt them and have been comforted knowing we have so many in our community behind us.”

The health department released an aggregated demographic profile of the county’s confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday. The data show that 18 people under the age of 18 have tested positive for COVID-19. See below for complete information.
