Bladen Community College issued the following announcement on Aug. 25.
Bladen Community College will begin classes for men and women interested in Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) on October 4th. Over the past twenty-eight years, the college has graduated more than 250 candidates, providing skilled law enforcement personnel to local, town, county, regional, state, and federal agencies. Interested individuals should apply now and seek guidance on how to enroll in the program.
BLET is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, municipal governments, or with private enterprise. These entry-level employment positions have competitive salaries, benefit packages, uniforms, and often include a patrol car.
Typically, classes will be held Monday through Thursday evenings, from 6 PM until 10 PM and every other Saturday, from 8 AM until 5 PM. The 28-weeks program is approved for NC Works, financial aid and VA benefits, as well as the local James B. Collins Scholarship.
The high standards program, which combines physical conditioning with required classwork, utilizes State-Commission-Accredited topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, civil, juvenile, traffic and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody and court procedures; emergency responses; firearms training and subject control arrest techniques training.
Eligible candidates for the BLET Academy must meet certain conditions such as passing a required reading test, be at least 20 years old at the time of course registration, pass a physical examination and be sponsored or employed by a public law enforcement agency.
Bladen Community College President, Dr. Amanda Lee remarked “Our graduates are now working in police and sheriff’s departments in our area. It is a rigorous program and requires commitment but yet yields very positive results for the individual and area law enforcement.”
Dr. Lee added “We encourage the public and interested students to come out to BCC and attend the County Wide Law Enforcement Hiring Event to learn more about the various careers in law enforcement with Local and State Police Agencies”. It is coming up soon, Sept. 16th from 5pm until 7pm, in the BCC Auditorium Building #9. Patrol vehicles will be on display and agency representatives available to answer questions, as well as BCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) School Director Mr. Danny Priest will be there signing up cadets for our upcoming BCC BLET Course starting October 4, 2021.
