City of Whiteville issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.
We will begin taking applications for sponsorship's for the new flower pots going downtown on MONDAY January 31. The pot and plaque together will be $250.00. The City will be covering the cost of the landscaping. When you arrive at City Hall, go to the finance window and the ladies will have an application for you to fill out and you pay your $250 along with the application. Please remember this is first come first serve and there are only 30, so please don't wait. If we have great response with this and well over 30 people would like to purchase a pot, then I will go back and ask for permission to expand this project to add more pots. You will be allowed 3 lines on your plaque, so have in mind what you want it to say when you get to City Hall. You will have to write it on your application.
Also, I want to make a clear understanding that when you sponsor a pot, it does not mean you get to designate where it goes in the downtown. The City will be placing these initial 30 pots at random on both sides of the road between the Arts Council and the Chamber.
