Robeson Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 11.
The Cultural Events Committee at Robeson Community College sponsored a photo contest in which students were to “Capture Your County Without Words.” Nicole Chayko-Berry, a respiratory therapy student at RCC, won the contest.
The Cultural Events Committee named her entry “Running Free.”
“The photo was representative of me and I felt that it represented old barns, country life, and North Carolina,” said Chayko-Berry. “We were driving back home from vacation, and we saw the sunrise and so we pulled over and took the picture. I just thought it would be the perfect look.”
Chayko-Berry, a resident of Fayetteville, NC, says she loves horses and used to volunteer at a horse farm, making that part of her inspiration behind the composition of the photo. She was awarded a check for $50 and a medal for her award winning entry.
