RCC Poetry Contest Winners Announced

Award

April was National Poetry month. This year we celebrated with our 9th annual poetry contest, which was sponsored by the English department and the Friends of the Arts.  The writing themes this year were “The Power of Words” and “Real Beauty”. Both the English department and the Friends of the Arts would like to thank all participants. There were two categories including one for Robeson Community College students and one for Faculty and Staff.

Each winner received a medal and a gift bag containing gift cards and other items. First place faculty/staff winner Rebecca Shaw and first place student winner Anna Richardson also received a check for $100.00.  All winners have been invited to read their poems during our first Poetry Slam, which will take place during the Fall of 2022 semester at Robeson Community College. The winners are as follows:

STUDENT CONTEST WINNERS

First Place – Anna Richardson

Poem:  “Does a Rose Not Have Thorns?”

Second Place – Michaela Mickles

Poem: “Real Beauty”

Third Place – Summer Bullard

Poem: “Set Free”

FACULTY/STAFF CONTEST WINNERS

First Place – Rebecca Shaw

Poem: “Postcard Sestina”

Second Place – Arthur R. Hall

Poem:  “The Power of Words (Proverbs 18:21)”

Third Place – Angela Lamb

Poem:  “Beauty Is Real”
