Some Public Schools of Robeson County administrators, educators, EC program specialists and other staff members participated Wednesday and Thursday in sessions led by North Carolina Department of Public Instruction literacy and math consultants to strengthen support and create a framework for successful co-teaching in school classrooms.
-The sessions come as the following schools prepare to implement co-teaching programs: Tanglewood Elementary School, L. Gilbert Carroll Middle School, Pembroke Middle School and Fairmont High School.
-Co-teaching includes two credentialed teachers like a general education educator and Exceptional Children’s Department educator who jointly deliver instruction.
“It is an excellent way to lower the student-teacher ratio” and reach more students, said Beth Gilchrist, Sandhills Literacy Consultant, Exceptional Children Division at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
-Teachers and administrators also engaged in separate activities that included making bricks that include barriers of effective co-teaching during the sessions.
