26 North Carolina counties remain as areas for high community transmission (orange). Robeson County remains in the moderate category (yellow) as are our contiguous counties except Hoke (orange) and Columbus (green or low). Statewide, viral loads in the wastewater systems continue to decline as did the total of positive cases. There was a slight increase in hospital visits and emergency room visits, but it really is not of note.
It has been noted in recent studies that long Covid has risen since last summer when the omicron variants became dominant. It is now calculated that one in five people who contracted Covid then are still suffering, with the vast majority of them being female and young.
Monkeypox cases remain at two for the county. The profile in the state has changed over time as one-fourth of all cases are to Whites now. It still adversely affects the male population (98%) and the under 50 years of age crowd (93%). The NCDHHS dashboard lists the population eligible for vaccinations and those eligible are encouraged to get vaccinated.
