Scotland County Black History
Wes Covington was born in Laurinburg on March 27, 1932 and had a successful career as a professional baseball player.
In 1955, when playing in the minor league, for Jacksonville, his successful year earned him a chance to play in the major league. Covington’s first at bat, in his first game, in the major league, secured a win for the Milwaukee Braves!
After retiring from baseball, Covington and his family settled in Milwaukee.
