A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Robeson County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request, made by South North Carolina News, sought access to pre-election test reports for election voting machines under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.
The request specifically asked for these reports in a PDF format and required information on several key fields. These included the date of the test, the manufacturer of the machine, the model number of the machine, and its status - whether it passed or failed.
As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South North Carolina News believe that access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the Robeson County Election Department regarding this matter.
