FOIA Request to Bladen County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
We at South North Carolina News have officially submitted a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. Our request was sent to the Bladen County Election Department with the aim of obtaining comprehensive information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The specific details requested include the full names of the candidates (first, middle, and last), the office they are vying for, jurisdiction of said office, and their party affiliation. Additionally, we have also asked for all available contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a positive response from the Bladen County Election Department as we continue our mission of keeping the public informed about local government affairs.
