The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has renewed Columbus Regional Health's recognition for quality and safety in its endoscopy unit for another three years. This renewal is part of ASGE's Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program, which honors units that demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety and quality by meeting the program’s stringent criteria.
The criteria for recognition include adherence to ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, CDC infection control guidelines, and ensuring the competency of endoscopy staff. To achieve this recognition, units must complete a peer-reviewed application process. They are required to attest to the continued competence of all staff according to their roles and show they have policies in place for ongoing performance assessment against key quality indicators. Additionally, units must confirm they have established infrastructure and personnel dedicated to infection control and prevention.
This program applies to various settings where endoscopy is practiced, including office-based units, hospital-based units, and stand-alone ambulatory surgery centers.
ASGE is recognized as a leader in setting standards of excellence in endoscopy through its safety guidelines and training programs. The society emphasizes the importance of quality and safety among its members through regular communications like emails and newsletters, as well as educational courses.
