While the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Columbus County, the rate of growth slowed slightly in recent days.
Five new cases announced Thursday brought the county’s total number of cases to 354, which includes 27 deaths and 161 recoveries.
The health department did not release the sources of infections for the five cases reported Thursday. The sources for six cases announced Wednesday were still under investigation.
The health department announced five cases on Tuesday. “Two of the new cases are contacts of a known positive case, one of the cases is connected to a positive family member, one case is still under investigation, and the source of infection could not be found for one case,” the health department said in a press release. The next update from the health department is expected Monday. The department said it would transition from daily updates to twice-weekly reports, on Mondays and Thursdays.
“In the event that there is an unprecedented increase in the number of cases or deaths due to COVID-19, the Columbus County Health Department will provide additional updates,” the health department said.
