Flock Camera Information:
I recently had a conversation with a gentleman and he asked me how things were going in town, and asked about our Flock Cameras. He stated that his wife recently received a ticket from one of those cameras in Wilmington, so he knows that they work.
I explained to him that our officers here in Elizabethtown do not issue traffic tickets based on information received from the cameras. I then explained to him that the cameras only read license plates as vehicles pass by them and they automatically send an alert to our officers for one of two reasons:
1. The vehicle has been previously entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database for any reason, such as: Stolen Vehicle, Stolen Plate, Wanted Person, Protection Order, Sex Offender, Amber Alert, or Silver Alert.
2. The vehicle has been entered into the Flock system by one of our officers that may be following up on an investigation and they are attempting to locate the vehicle. In this scenario, the reason for the search must be documented.
The Alert will notify the officer of the reason for the alert, date/time, which camera the vehicle drove by, and it will send a picture of the car, the license plate and a map location.
The picture shown below is an example of an alert that we received at 2:59 p.m. on Saturday, 7/9/22. It is a car that was stolen at gunpoint (car jacking) that occurred in Johnston County on Friday night. Our officers located the car, were able to make an arrest, and returned the car the to the rightful owner.
With the help of our Flock cameras, during the first nine days of July, our officers have recovered two stolen vehicles, made an arrest on two separate occasions related to an ongoing narcotics investigation (Crystal Meth) and made an arrest related to a larceny investigation.
The Flock cameras are just another tool that our officers use on a daily basis to help keep the folks of Elizabethtown safe. So, when you see them out in public, give them a pat on the back for all of their hard work.
And once again, I would like to thank those business owners that made it possible for us to partner with Flock Safety to install the cameras: Bladen Builders Supply, Campbell Oil Co., Cape Fear Distillery, Delton, Hilton Auction & Realty, Hilton Companies, Lacy West-Thomas Insuarance, Rust Enterprises (McDonalds), Specialty Product Technologies, Eddie White State Farm Insurance and Walmart.
