Columbus County issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.
Beginning December 1, 2021, Any Household With a Person Age 60 or Older or a Disabled Person Receiving Services Through the Division of Aging and Adult Services (Daas) Who Currently Receives Fns and Received Lieap During the 2012-2022 Lieap Season in December May Qualify to Receive an Automated Payment This Lieap Season.
These Households Are Currently Being Notified by Mail of Their Eligibility and Will Not Have to Apply for This Benefit. These Households Only Have to Notify the Columbus County Dss Energy Staff if They Have Had Any Changes in Their Household Since Last Lieap Season.
This Notification Must Be Done Asap. They Can Mail in Their Changes, Drop Them Off at Dss, or Call Dss at 910-642-2800. During the Month of December, Any Household With a Person Age 60 or Older or a Disabled Person Receiving Daas Services Who Did Not Receive a Notice of an Automated Payment Are Encouraged to Apply by Submitting a Paper Application That Can Be Found on-line at the Dhhs Website or in the Lobby of Dss. This Application Can Be Mailed, Faxed, or Dropped Off in the Drop Box Near the Front Entrance of Dss. Please Include a Telephone Number So a Telephone Interview Can Be Conducted. Beginning January 3, 2022, Lieap Will Be Open to All Other Households That Did Not Receive During the Month of December. At This Time Lieap Applications Will Be Available to Be Submitted via Email at Www.epass.nc.gov.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
• Please include a valid phone number on the application since a telephone interview
may need to be completed.
• All information will be verified, including income.
• Energy Payments will be paid directly to the heating provider.
• Approval is based on eligibility and availability of funds at the time all information
is provided and the application is processed.
• Allotment amounts are based on the applicant’s primary heating source.
• THIS IS NOT A CRISIS PROGRAM.
